O-rings are essential components in many fluid systems, such as pressfitting, and their main function is to guarantee tightness and prevent leaks. There are different types of gaskets, each with unique characteristics that make them ideal for different applications. In this article we will explore the different types of O-rings available from Isotubi, their composition and their ideal applications.
There are three main types of O-rings: EPDM, FKM, and HNBR.
EPDM (black): Basic type gasket used in various systems, including sanitary water supply, heating systems, fire prevention and oil-free compressed air handling. It can withstand a range of temperatures from -15ºC with temperature peaks of +110ºC.
The FKM gasket (green or red), made of fluorinated rubber, is ideal for high temperatures and is used in solar installations, with oils and hydrocarbons. This joint is resistant to a wide range of chemical products and can withstand temperatures between -15ºC and 200ºC in the case of the green one. In the case of red, it can withstand temperatures between -15ºC up to 160ºC with peaks of 170ºC.
Lastly, the HNBR (yellow) gaskets are made of nitrile rubber. The regulations dictate that they must be used in any system installed in a gas plant. ISOTUBI has had certificates for all its NUMEPRESS accessories for gas installations for the English, Italian and Spanish markets for years. Recently, we have obtained the prestigious German certificate (DVGW).
In conclusion, O-rings are key components in many fluid systems, and their choice will depend on the application and the working temperature. The type of joint will guarantee the tightness, making it a safe system.
